The cuteness factor is at a solid 10/10 for Kirby’s Return to Dream Land Deluxe, which makes it hard to complain about the difficulty. I don't know if all of these were in the original game, but they made me smile whenever I found a new specific animation for a Copy ability. Another Copy gives Kirby water powers, and if you get Kirby to sit still on the water's surface, a floaty will appear around him. For example, when Kirby sucks up the umbrella enemy and jumps into the air, he'll flip the umbrella out and slowly float to the ground as long you don't touch a button. As was seeing all the different animations, the Copy abilities would trigger in specific scenarios. Discovering these by messing around with different buttons and attack patterns was part of the fun for me. For most of the Copy powers, you'll realise there's a secret-ish move that each can perform. Every time Kirby sucks up something like a bomber or swordsman and gains their ability, you can pause the game to look at what Kirby can do with his new powers. Still, the number of Copy abilities Kirby gets access to means you'll have a surprisingly versatile collection of skills and combat moves to despatch them. But it's when you play as Kirby and you get to experience his Copy powers that the game feels the most alive.Įnemies in Kirby's Return to Dream Land Deluxe are relatively easy to take down. This is a relativity straightforward platformer that you can play either by yourself or with three other friends taking control of either Meta Knight, Bandana Waddle Dee or King Dedede. Although two new Copy powers were added, and the game looks better than it did on the Wii in 2011, that’s for sure. The main story mode of Return to Dream Land Deluxe is untouched, as far as I can tell. This is much more than just a remaster, with the surprising epilogue chapter adding several more hours of new gameplay. And if I feel that way, I'm sure there will be others. It won't be the continuation of what made last year's game such a hit, but it's a game I haven't played before, and I'm glad to have gotten the chance to play now. Following that up, HAL Laboratory and Nintendo has released Kirby's Return to Dream Land Deluxe, which is a remaster of the 2011 game on the Wii. The cutie puffball's first 3D adventure was a hit and brought in a bunch of new fans for the unsung hero of the Smash Bros universe. Kirby had his biggest year in 2022 with the release of Kirby and The Forgotten Land.
